Separation and shielding of LPG tanks up to 1.1 tonne capacity
Diagram 6.1 specifies the minimum separation distances and shielding requirements for liquified petroleum gas tanks with capacity up to 1.1 tonne from buildings, boundaries, and fixed sources of ignition. It shows four configurations with varying use of fire walls and indicates specific distance requirements.
Diagram 6.1 Separation or shielding of liquified petroleum gas tanks of up to 1.1 tonne capacity from buildings, boundaries and fixed sources of ignition
Configurations shown:
(a) No fire wall
(b) Separate fire wall
(c) Boundary incorporating fire wall or Building incorporating fire wall
(d) Fire wall is part of the building wall
Key requirements:
- Fire wall is imperforate (without exception - see paragraph 2.13) and with 60 minute fire resistance (insulation integrity and stability)
- 9 m or to eaves minimum separation from buildings/boundaries where no fire wall
- 2000 mm should be either side of pressure relief valve
- No part of structure to directly over-hang the tank
- Minimum separation distances apply per Table 6.2 Column (B) or Column (C) depending on configuration
- See paragraphs 6.9, 6.13 and 6.15 (a) & (b) for additional guidance
