Holiday parks: design, layout and landscaping standards

High quality design, layout, and landscaping are essential to integrate holiday parks into the landscape and respect the rural context. Modern parks typically require larger sites to meet customer demand for improved space standards, privacy, and amenity open space, though high quality proposals can still be refused if the site is fundamentally unsuitable.

The policy provisions also reflect the importance of design, layout and landscaping in order to achieve high quality development that integrates into the landscape and respects the surrounding rural context as well as providing a pleasant environment for users of the holiday park. These requirements appear to reflect recent trends within the holiday park industry which are to a large extent driven by customer demand for improved space standards, greater privacy, generous provision for amenity open space and a pleasant landscaped environment. It is acknowledged that new holiday parks incorporating these elements may typically require somewhat larger sites than traditional high density parks. This factor makes good site selection all the more important. In this context, a high quality proposal in terms of layout and landscaping will still be refused planning permission if the site is fundamentally unsuitable.
