Regional Development Strategy 2035 Recognition of Belfast and Town Centres

The RDS 2035 recognises Belfast as a major conurbation with thriving retail and service functions, and emphasises the importance of accessible, vibrant city and town centres for shopping, social activity and recreation.

The Regional Development Strategy 2035 (RDS) recognises the Belfast Metropolitan Urban Area as the major conurbation in Northern Ireland with a thriving retail, service, administration, cultural and educational centre. It further recognises the importance of accessible, vibrant city and town centres which offer people more local choice for shopping, social activity and recreation. The RDS directs a city centre first approach to retail development complemented by a precautionary approach to out of centre developments.
