Poorly connected residential areas and non-obvious barriers to movement

Major developments must address poorly connected residential areas created by restricted access points, cul-de-sacs, and barriers such as shopping centres and industrial estates that have reinforced community boundaries.

On a more localised level challenges also exist in the form of poorly connected residential areas, where points of access were restricted and the use of cul-de-sacs widespread in order to address concerns of security forces. These challenges also extend to those less obvious barriers to movement such as shopping centres, industrial estates and swathes of 'left over' open space, all of which have been used in various guises to reinforce and define boundaries between communities.
