Brownfield sites - connectivity and historic context

Development of brownfield sites should be informed by existing connectivity levels and historic context, with research into the site's previous function to understand desire lines and develop appropriate linkages.

This is of particular importance when developing brownfield sites within the city which may have been left underdeveloped due to the lack of connectivity. Existing and historic context and levels of connectivity should provide the starting point from which to formulate new patterns of development. Research to understand what the previous function and use of the brownfield site was, may help to develop and inform desire lines and linkages.
