Reuse of Historic Buildings and Conservation Area Requirements

Tall building proposals involving unlisted historic buildings must support conservation principles, and those in conservation areas must meet heritage policies. Façade retention proposals are generally not acceptable.

Proposals for the reuse of unlisted historic buildings should support conservation principles, with any proposed interventions informed by an understanding of the building's heritage significance. Development proposals for tall buildings within conservation areas and ATC's will also be expected to meet the policy requirements of built heritage policies and any supporting guidance. Façade retention proposals are at odds with this approach and will not normally be acceptable.
