External storage and waste management areas

External storage areas for waste management should be dedicated, suitably designed within development boundaries, and incorporated early in the design process to minimize dead frontage and street clutter. Service Management Plans may be appropriate depending on development scale.

Consideration should also be given to the location of external storage areas for waste management. Dedicated and suitably designed areas within the boundary of the development should be identified so as to minimise the amount of dead frontage while avoiding undue clutter along streets and access points. Depending on the scale of development it may be appropriate to include a Service Management Plan (SMP) to cover these areas. If not catered for early in the design process, elements such as bin storage/pick up can have an impact on the streetscene.
