Registered Housing Associations (RHA) Role

RHAs are non-profit developers of new social rented and intermediate housing in Northern Ireland, regulated by DfC, and gain access to homes through the affordable housing policy that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

A RHA provides social rented and/or intermediate accommodation (via a subsidiary of a RHA where relevant) and may specialise in accommodation for special needs groups. They are the main developers of new social housing for rent in Northern Ireland, do not trade for profit and are regulated by DfC. The affordable housing policy within the Plan Strategy provides RHAs with the opportunity to acquire homes on sites that they would otherwise not have access to. Each of the RHAs within Northern Ireland and their contact details are listed on the Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA) website, (www.nifha.org).
