Design, layout and material coordination in public realm
Materials, seating, signage, bins, railings, cycle storage, lighting and other features should be carefully coordinated to complement the surrounding context and avoid clutter while supporting ease of movement and addressing antisocial issues.
The design, layout and choice of materials should complement the character of the surrounding context. An integrated approach should be taken in relation to the design and siting of features within the public realm including seating, signage, bins, railings, cycle storage, surface materials, lighting, kerb heights etc. to ensure they are carefully coordinated and integrated within the streetscape and avoid undue clutter that can impact ease of movement within these areas. The positive role that lighting can play in addressing potential anti-social issues should form part of early discussions in the design process.
