Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Role

DfI publishes regional planning policy, brings forward planning legislation, determines regionally significant applications, and provides planning oversight and guidance to Councils under the two-tier planning system.

DfI has responsibility for the publication of regional planning policy, in terms of the RDS and SPPS, as well as bringing forward planning legislation. DfI can also act as the planning authority in the determination of regionally significant or 'called-in' planning applications. DfI performs a planning oversight and guidance role for Councils, including the regional monitoring of performance, under the two-tier planning system.
