Reinforcing a sense of place through character and identity
The identity and character of places is established through buildings, streets, spaces, landscape, infrastructure, and how people use and experience these spaces daily. Sustainable places with strong sense of place encourage community pride and cohesion.
The identity and character of a place is established not only by the pattern of buildings, streets and spaces, landscape and infrastructure but also by how these spaces are used and experienced on a daily basis. This interaction and the feelings evoked within spaces create a unique sense of place. Sustainable places with a strong sense of place encourage pride and ownership that generates inclusive and cohesive communities where people want to live, work and socialise.
