Understanding Built and Natural Context for Good Placemaking
Understanding the built and natural context, including variations in character and architectural styles, is essential to identifying what is sensitive to change and achieving the goal of creating high-quality places as a legacy for future generations.
Variations in character throughout the city, which can result in an eclectic mix of physical characteristics and architectural styles, offer visually unique experiences. The purpose of this section is to generate greater awareness of the built and natural context by describing elements within it. This understanding helps us appreciate what is special and most sensitive to change and facilitates the ultimate goal of good placemaking, which is about leaving a legacy of high-quality places for future generations.
