BRE guidelines for daylight and sunlight assessment
The Council will generally apply the Building Research Establishment guidelines (BR 209) to assess new development and where it may affect natural light to existing properties.
The latest edition of the Building Research Establishment (BRE) guidelines "Site Layout Planning for Daylight and Sunlight: A Guide to Good Practice (BR 209)" provides guidance on avoiding unacceptable impacts and sets out non-mandatory targets for levels of daylight and sunlight within existing and proposed development. The Council will generally apply the BRE guidance targets to assess new development and where new development may affect natural light to existing properties.
