Design considerations for porches and bay windows

Porches and bay windows can significantly affect property and street appearance. Designs must reflect the character of the property and street, with poor-quality additions that lack relation to neighbouring properties potentially damaging the overall street character.

The addition of a porch and/or bay windows to the front of a property can have a significant effect on its appearance and that of the street. While in some cases, a porch or bay window addition can add interest to what may otherwise be a blank elevation, those of poor design quality that bear no relation to the symmetry of neighbouring properties can damage the character and appearance of the whole street.
