Front extensions, porches and bay windows - general principle
Front extensions are highly visible and generally should not project beyond the established building line, as they can disrupt the streetscape character and architectural rhythm. The common building line to the front of properties on a street must be respected.
Front extensions are highly visible and often upset building lines and architectural rhythms. They can also appear unduly prominent in the streetscape, affecting the character and appearance of the street, especially where a row of properties is uniform in character. The area to the front of the 'building line' will generally not be acceptable for an extension or alteration. It is necessary therefore that the common building line to the front of properties on a street be respected. Where a building line is not clear, a view will be taken on an individual case by case basis.
