Permitted development rights overview
Permitted development rights exist for some types of extensions but are not comprehensive. Apartments, flats, and Houses in Multiple Occupation do not benefit from permitted development rights.
Some examples of permitted development rights are included for information throughout this guidance, but this should not be viewed as a comprehensive summary. For full details of permitted development rights, homeowners should refer to the Planning (General Permitted Development) Order (Northern Ireland) 2015 and the guidance provided on the Planning Portal. It should also be noted that some types of development, such as apartments/flats and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) do not benefit from permitted development rights.
