Wheelchair storage requirements
Space must be allocated within the entrance area for storage of a second wheelchair, with minimum dimensions of 1100mm deep by 900mm wide, positioned to be easily accessible and enable user transfer between wheelchairs without compromising the 1500mm turning circle.
Wheelchair users can often have additional storage requirements, including the need to facilitate storage of a second wheelchair that does not compromise circulation space. Additional storage space within the entrance area is therefore an important aspect of achieving adaptable and accessible accommodation.
The space allocated for the storage of a second wheelchair must be positioned so as to be easily accessible and accommodate the transfer of the user between wheelchairs (for example, between outdoor and indoor wheelchairs). Provision for the storage of a second wheelchair should be at least 1100mm deep and 900mm wide and be located as close as possible to the principal entrance without compromising the 1500mm turning circle.
