Self-Contained Units Definition and Requirements

Residential units created through conversion or sub-division must be independent from one another, with amenities such as bathrooms, w.c., and kitchens available exclusively for occupants of each unit. Units must not require occupiers to leave the unit to access any amenity.

Residential units created through the conversion or sub-division of existing buildings must be independent from one another. Amenities (e.g. bathroom, w.c. or kitchen) within the accommodation provided must be for the exclusive use of the occupiers living within each unit. Residential units are not self-contained if the occupiers need to leave a unit to gain access to any particular amenity. For example, 'cluster accommodation' is not a form of self-contained accommodation.
