External storage area design and ventilation

External waste storage areas should be positioned away from windows and ventilators, not interfere with pedestrian or cycling routes, and be in shade or shelter. Storage enclosures must provide clear space around containers, sufficient opening room, and permanent ventilation top and bottom.

External storage areas should be away from windows and ventilators, not interfere with pedestrian or cycling routes and, preferably, be in shade or under shelter. Enclosures, compounds or storage rooms provided should: • have a clear space between and around the containers; • allow enough space for filling, emptying and sufficient opening of the lid; • be permanently ventilated at the top and bottom; and
