Corridors, stairwells and lifts - Design principles

Corridors, stairwells and lifts must be designed to accommodate the needs of all residents including older persons, families with young children, wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. These areas should be well-illuminated with natural light where possible, good views out, and appropriate ventilation.

It is important that corridors (including lobby areas), stairwells and lifts, where provided, are designed to accommodate the needs of all residents, particularly older persons, families with young children, wheelchair users and others with limited mobility (see also 'Wheelchair standards' in Section 5.3). These areas should be well illuminated, preferably with some natural light, views out where possible, and appropriate ventilation.
