Sunlight orientation for main rooms
Main rooms should face south, east, or west to receive direct sunlight. Rooms facing north-west, north, and north-east should be avoided where possible, or should be dual aspect with compensating design solutions.
The aim should be to maximise the number of dwellings that have a window to a main living room facing south, east, or west and minimise the number of dwellings whose living rooms face solely north-west, north, or north-east, unless this is unachievable by the specific circumstances of the site or there is some compensating factor such as an appealing view to the north.
