Assessment of residential extensions - disability adaptations

Extensions or alterations required to meet the needs of a person with a disability are a material consideration, and daylighting and overshadowing criteria may be relaxed in such cases.

(6) Provision of an extension or alterations to meet the particular needs of a person with a disability. For example, a modest single storey extension required to meet the particular needs of the person in question will be a material consideration to be balanced against any adverse impacts on the neighbouring property. This may result in the criteria relating to daylighting and overshadowing being relaxed.
