Children's Play Areas in Residential Development
Children's play areas must be safe, well-overlooked, and designed to accommodate all ages and abilities; larger developments should provide designated areas for toddlers and children under six, plus facilities for young people.
Where provided, children's play areas must offer a safe and convenient space for children of all ages and abilities to play. They should be positioned so that they are overlooked, but not too close to homes, to lessen potential disturbance to residents. They should be flexible, imaginative, stimulating and give children opportunity to explore and experiment. For larger developments, specially designated play areas for the specific needs of toddlers and children up to the age of six should be provided, with suitable equipment and seating for parents/ guardians. Consideration should also be given towards provision of space and facilities which help meet the needs of young people/teenagers.
