Accessibility and Movement - Active Travel and Route Design
Proposals must reduce private car reliance, foster active travel such as walking and cycling, respect existing public rights of way, and provide convenient access to public transport. Pedestrian and cycling routes must be integrated into the design from the outset.
Proposals should seek to reduce reliance on the private car, foster active travel movement, such as walking or cycling, respect existing public rights of way and provide convenient access to public transport and existing or proposed facilities in the vicinity. Accessibility and choice of routes are vital characteristics in promoting walking and cycling on larger sites. Such matters must be built into the design from the outset as the adaptation of the layout, for example to fit in routes for pedestrians and cyclists, will be difficult if not impossible at a later date.
