Window orientation for privacy and surveillance

Windows should be oriented to maintain privacy while providing natural surveillance onto the street. For dormer windows, restricting size and setting back from eaves can protect neighbouring privacy.

In some instances an acceptable solution may be achieved through the orientation of windows that are capable of both maintaining privacy and provide natural surveillance on to the street. In the case of dormer windows, restricting the size of the window and setting it back from the eaves is often an adequate solution that can protect neighbouring privacy.
