SPPS - Amenity Space and Well-Being

Planning authorities should ensure adequate private, semi-private, and public amenity space in residential development, as it contributes to mental and physical well-being and social cohesion.

The Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) identifies core principles to assist with plan-making and decision taking. Under the 'Improving Health and Well-Being' core principle the SPPS recognises that adequate private, semi-private and public amenity space is a prime consideration in all residential development and contributes to mental and physical well-being and the strengthening of social cohesion.
