On-site delivery preference for affordable housing
The Council prioritises on-site provision of affordable housing as part of mixed-tenure development over off-site alternatives, as on-site delivery better supports sustainable communities with mixed tenure arrangements.
As noted above, the Council's over-riding aim when considering the suitability of alternative affordable housing provision is to secure the maximum viable number of affordable housing units on-site as part of mixed tenure development. The provision of affordable housing on an alternative site within the same local housing area is therefore less desirable than on-site delivery, as it will result in less mixed tenure development which helps to underpin sustainable communities.
