Primary Retail Frontage Designation (RET 1, RET 5)
Designates primary retail frontages where the greatest concentration of retail uses occur, to manage pressure for change of use to non-retail uses and protect the retail character of these areas.
A primary retail frontage was only designated in dBMAP. It was designated as this is where the greatest concentration of retail uses are found and to manage the pressure on retail for change of use to non-retail uses. It was also designated to reflect the existing circumstances on the ground especially in regards to pressure for non-retail uses. It is considered appropriate to reflect the designation of dBMAP as the plan with the most updated evidence base given the evolution of the retail environment and the City.
