Reuse and conversion of non-residential buildings in the countryside
Non-residential buildings that are no longer needed for their original purpose can be reused or sympathetically converted for residential use or other appropriate economic, tourism, community and recreational uses in the countryside, subject to restrictions on retail use.
The reuse and sympathetic conversion of buildings, including non-residential buildings that are no longer needed for their original purpose, can represent a sustainable approach to development at appropriate locations in the countryside and can help preserve local character. There may be potential for the reuse of an existing non-residential building for residential use. There may also be scope for reuse and adaptation for non-residential uses, including appropriate economic, tourism, community and recreational uses. Retailing, unless small scale and ancillary to the main use, will not however be considered acceptable.
