Rural design integration and environmental protection
All necessary development must be well-designed and integrated into its setting, respect rural character and amenity, and demonstrate how potential environmental impacts can be avoided or mitigated. Development must not compromise the distinction between urban and countryside areas.
It is important to ensure that any necessary and permissible development is well-designed and adequately integrated into its setting, to respect and protect rural character, amenity and the wider environment, including natural heritage and water quality. All proposals need to demonstrate how such potential impacts can be avoided or mitigated in order to protect environmental quality. Similarly, new development must not compromise the distinction between the urban and countryside areas in order to maintain the quality of the natural landscape setting of the Belfast urban area.
