Policy Framework for Landscape and Coastal Protection
Protection of landscape and coastal quality is aligned with SPPS policies including Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, coastal protection, and identification of urban waterfront areas where development and regeneration may be appropriate.
The protection of landscape and coastal quality accords with the SPPS, including the core principle of planning to preserve and improve the natural environment. In this regard, the SPPS includes policy on Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), such as the Lagan Valley AONB. It also includes policies on coastal areas, including protection of nature conservation and amenity value and identification of urban waterfront areas where some development and regeneration may be appropriate.
