Policy aims for open space protection and enhancement
The LDP policies aim to protect and enhance existing open space and secure creation of new open space within Belfast, with consideration for green and blue infrastructure networks, protection of all existing open spaces, provision of new high-quality open space, convenient and safe access, and integration of open space within new developments.
In recognition of the multi-benefits of open space, including for health, amenity and environmental quality, the LDP policies aim to protect and enhance existing open space and secure the creation of new open space within Belfast, with particular consideration given to:
Creation and protection of a green and blue infrastructure network across the city's urban and rural areas;
Appropriate protection of all existing open spaces of all types, including (but not limited to) areas specifically identified in the LDP;
Provision of new open space areas of high quality and in keeping with the principles of environmental sustainability;
Convenient and safe access to areas of open space for local communities, residents and visitors; and
Integration of open space within significant new developments.
