Fabric first approach design methods

The fabric first approach minimises energy consumption by maximising air-tightness and insulation, and optimising solar gain, natural ventilation, and thermal mass performance of the building structure.

Buildings designed and constructed using the fabric first approach aim to minimise the need for energy consumption through methods such as: Maximising air-tightness and using super-high insulation; and Optimising solar gain, natural ventilation and using the thermal mass of the building fabric, including using energy derived from occupation and use.
