Greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and climate resilience
The policy aims to address greenhouse gas emissions and build resilient communities through compact city design, sustainable neighbourhoods with mixed-use facilities, and climate-adaptive development.
The policy aims to address greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate environmental change and to build resilient communities. It is recognised that the LDP is an important spatial tool to create a compact city, designing neighbourhoods that have shops, workplaces, local amenities and services near homes, which increase opportunities for walking, cycling and public transport and reduces the need to use the car. It is also important that developments are designed to mitigate against environmental change and to withstand its effects. This will ultimately help to minimise the impact of development on the wider environment and ensure that buildings and spaces endure.
