Renewable Energy Development Assessment Criteria

The council will assess renewable energy proposals considering environmental and planning issues per SPPS, recognizing benefits including reduced emissions, energy security, and improved air quality.

In assessing renewable energy development proposals, the council will give particular consideration to relevant environmental and planning issues in accordance with the SPPS. A reliable and plentiful supply of renewable energy is vital if we are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To plan for the adoption of renewable energy technologies will also bring significant socio-economic and environmental benefits, including greater energy security, tackling fuel poverty and improved air quality in the city. The dependence on imported fossil fuels is at odds with delivering future prosperity and wellbeing. A secure and affordable renewable energy supply is crucial to delivering economic growth.
