Belfast·LDP Plan Strategy 2035 (adopted 2023)·Page 147·7.7.2
Policy Aims - Regional and Local Needs
The RDS recognises Belfast as a regional capital for specialised services. Land must be protected for health, community and cultural facilities, and losses of valued neighbourhood services should be safeguarded against. New community infrastructure requirements from developments should be addressed through the planning process, potentially using section 76 planning agreements.
The RDS recognises Belfast as the regional capital for specialised services and cultural amenities serving a trans-boundary population. In addition, community infrastructure in the city also has to meet the city's own needs. It is important to protect land for health, community and cultural facilities and to seek to safeguard against unnecessary loss of valued neighbourhood services. It is also essential that any new community infrastructure requirements arising from proposed developments are adequately addressed as part of the planning process. Where appropriate, s76 planning agreements can be used to ensure provision of new facilities and services that are needed to serve future residents.
