Policy BH1 – Listed buildings: Alteration and extension

Planning permission for alteration and extension of a listed building will be granted where the works preserve the building's special features, respect its essential character, use quality materials, and extensions are subservient in height, scale, massing, form and alignment.

Alteration and extension of a listed building Planning permission will be granted for the alteration and extension of a listed building where all the following criteria are met: f. The works preserve, restore and complement the building's features of special architectural or historical importance to ensure the existing building remains intact and unimpaired; g. The design respects the essential character of the existing building and/or setting; h. The proposal makes use of quality materials and appropriate detailing sympathetic with the existing building and/or setting; and i. In the case of extensions, they shall be subservient to the existing building with regard to height, scale, massing, form and alignment;
