Design quality and placemaking requirements

Development must be of high design quality, respect local context, and make a positive contribution to an area's character and distinctiveness, in line with regional planning policy.

Regional planning policy places an emphasis on placemaking and requires all development to be of a high design quality, respect local context and make a positive contribution to an area's character and distinctiveness. The SPPS requires robust and comprehensive policies within the LDP to set out the quality of development that will be expected.
