Protection of amenity from development impacts

Development must not cause detrimental impacts to existing buildings and spaces including loss of daylight/sunlight, privacy and outlook, harmful noise, odour, vibration, air pollution, highway safety issues, or adverse microclimate effects.

The council recognises that the amenity of existing buildings, spaces and streets can be impacted in a number of ways by development. This includes: The detrimental loss of daylight and sunlight to existing and adjacent occupiers; Loss of privacy and outlook due to the proximity and design of developments; Harmful noise, odour, vibration and air pollution from existing and proposed developments; and Potential to impact highway safety and cause detrimental microclimate effects.
