Sustainable design standards and integrated renewable technologies
The council supports development incorporating BREEAM or comparable sustainability standards, particularly in large-scale urban development, public sector development, or buildings with extensive grounds, with applicants encouraged to embed sustainable principles from the earliest design stage.
Some types of new development may provide greater opportunity for maximising the benefits that can be derived from integrated renewable technology and/or passive solar design, such as large-scale urban development, public sector development or buildings set in extensive grounds. However, there is scope to incorporate appropriate measures into the design of many different scales of development. The council will support proposals that incorporate Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) or comparable standards, applicants are advised to embed sustainable principles from the earliest stage possible.
