Policy Alignment with Design Standards and City Centre Regeneration

The PBMSA policy supports regional design standards and place-making principles, and aligns with the Belfast City Centre Regeneration and Investment Strategy which seeks to increase residential population including appropriate student housing that is carefully directed, located and managed.

The policy approach supports current regional policies and guidance that aim to raise residential design standards and ensure the key principles behind good place-making are implemented in urban areas. It also recognises the wider economic, cultural and community benefits of achieving excellence in design. This policy will also help to achieve the objectives of the Belfast City Centre Regeneration and Investment Strategy (BCCRIS), which seeks to increase the residential population in the city centre, including "appropriate student housing", and argues that "student housing should be carefully directed, located and managed".
