Policy HOU8 – Specialist residential accommodation

Planning permission will be granted for specialist residential accommodation, including retirement villages and care-related facilities, where the following criteria are met: a. The homes and/or bed spaces to be provided meet community needs demonstrated through a statement of specialist housing need; and b. The proposals will deliver convenient access to relevant local services and facilities, including local shops, public transport routes and health facilities. Proposals for the improvement of existing specialist accommodation, including sheltered housing, extra care housing, nursing homes and residential care homes shall also be supported where these criteria are met. This will be subject to meeting all other policy requirements.
