Outer Belfast Settlement Area
Outer Belfast is characterized by lower-density residential development with larger dwellings, predominantly semi-detached and detached houses with private gardens, and minimal industrial or commercial uses. The area boundaries fall between the inner city settlement area and the settlement development limit.
The outer areas of Belfast typically contain a greater proportion of housing than industrial and commercial development. Dwellings tend to be larger and lower density moving into the suburbs, with the majority of properties taking the form of semi-detached and detached houses with private gardens. The full extent of the outer Belfast settlement area will be defined within the Local Policies Plan, falling between the inner city settlement area and the settlement development limit.
