RDS Strategic Role of Belfast and Metropolitan Area Development
The RDS recognises Belfast's role as the regional economic driver and sets out spatial framework guidance to promote urban economic development, grow Belfast's population, enhance the city centre as regional capital, and manage movement of people within the Belfast metropolitan area.
The RDS recognises the important role Belfast plays in generating regional prosperity and sets strengthening Belfast as the regional economic driver as part of the 8 aims for the region. It recognises the importance of Belfast City at the heart of the wider metropolitan area and Spatial Framework Guidance (SFG) seeks to:
Promote urban economic development at key locations throughout the Belfast metropolitan area by ensuring that sufficient land is available for jobs;
Grow the population of the city of Belfast;
Enhance the role of Belfast City Centre as the regional capital and focus of administration, commerce, specialised services and cultural amenities;
Manage the movement of people within the Belfast metropolitan area; and
