Local Policies Plan Preparation and Adoption

The Local Policies Plan will be prepared for public consultation, undergo independent examination for soundness, and require central government binding adoption before becoming a principal consideration for planning applications.

The third stage is the preparation of the draft Local Policies Plan for public consultation. It will be consistent with the adopted Plan Strategy and will provide detailed land use proposals regarding the future development of Belfast. The Local Policies Plan will be subject to a soundness based independent examination to determine its soundness. An advisory report of its findings will be issued to central government. A binding report will then be issued by central government requiring the council to formally adopt and publish the Local Policies Plan as originally prepared or with modifications. The Plan Strategy and Local Policies Plan together will become the principal consideration when determining future planning applications for development in the city.
