Location of controls - obstructed reach

Where an obstruction blocks direct reach to a control (such as kitchen units), the control must be positioned lower, typically not more than 1.7 m above floor level depending on the obstruction dimensions.

Where reach would be obstructed the control should be lower, for example, if the obstruction is a kitchen unit 900 mm high and 600 mm deep, the control should be not more than 1.7 m above floor level (see Diagram 4.1(b)).
