Impact with glazing - Performance requirement
Regulation 96 is met by adopting measures in safety critical glazing locations to limit risk of cutting and piercing injuries from impact. This can be achieved through glazing that breaks harmlessly, is sufficiently robust to resist breakage, or through limiting contact with glazing.
It is the view of the Department that the requirements of regulation 96 in Part V will be met by adopting in safety critical glazing locations, measures to limit the risk of people sustaining cutting and piercing injuries from impact with glazing.
Glazing in safety critical glazing locations would be considered reasonably safe where its nature is such that, if breakage did occur, any particles would be relatively harmless.
The requirement may also be met if the glazing is sufficiently robust to ensure that the risk of breakage is low, or if steps are taken to limit the risk of contact with the glazing.
