Access to alternative entrances on sloping plots

Where the plot gradient exceeds specified limits (1 in 15, or 1 in 12 for distances less than 5 m), access may be provided to an alternative entrance instead of the principal entrance. A stepped approach may be provided if the gradient to an alternative entrance exceeds these limits.

Where the plot gradient to the principal entrance of a dwelling or the common entrance to a block of dwellings is greater than – (a) 1 in 15; or (b) 1 in 12 where the travel distance is less than 5 m, access may be provided to an alternative entrance complying with the provisions of paragraph 7.2. Where the plot gradient to an alternative entrance is greater than (a) or (b), a stepped approach may be provided.
