Balcony access for wheelchair accessible guest bedrooms

Guest bedrooms with balconies must have accessible doorways meeting specific width, threshold, and space requirements, with visibility zones for glazed doors.

Where a wheelchair accessible guest bedroom has a balcony, there should be access to it by a doorway – (a) that has a clear opening width that complies with Table 4.1; (b) with a level threshold that complies with the provisions of paragraph 3.10; and (c) with a clear space to the bedroom side of not less than 1500 mm deep. Where a door to a balcony contains glazing, it should have a zone of visibility from a height above floor level of not more than 900 mm to not less than 1200 mm.
