Door handle reach and grip space for wheelchair users
Manually operated doors should provide a clear space alongside the leading edge on the pull side to allow wheelchair users to reach and grip the door handle and open the door without their footrest hitting the return wall.
A space alongside the leading edge of a door, on the pull side, will enable a wheelchair user to reach and grip the door handle, then open the door without releasing hold on the handle and without the footrest colliding with the return wall.
